TIPS: To ensure that every child has an opportunity and responsibility assign two students per job. This also encourages job-sharing or working together as a partnership. You can either designate the jobs to students, have them choose or apply for a position A good idea is to rotate the jobs either daily, weekly, or quarterly, it’s your choice. You can make the transitions easier by having a “training” session by the previous student to help the next student to do the job efficiently.
If you want your students to become responsible while building a community spirit, give them responsibilities. Classroom Jobs are a great way for students to take responsibility for their classroom.
Accelerated Reader
Does your school use Accelerated Reader? Are you looking for a way to display and track individual student progress? Well do I have the perfect display set for you - The Accelerated Reader Clip Chart!
The Accelerated Reader Clip Chart is a visual display chart that is hung on your classroom wall to show students their reading progress. Using clothes pegs bearing the name of each student these levels are arranged vertically with 100 points as the ultimate goal for all. In increments of five these brightly colored points with kid-friendly graphics serve to motivate and to build confidence levels in a fun way. Simply print on cardstock and laminate. You can hang them vertically on your class walls using black and white polka dot ribbons (this will look super!).
Fiction vs Nonfiction
This resource contains four colored posters that make a fantastic visual for fiction and nonfiction for very young learners. These posters can be displayed in your literacy centers, writing workshop area or your classroom library. These posters are simple definitions for fiction and nonfiction and I suggest that it can be a great way to start your literary genre units. Simply print them poster size and laminate or cover with plastic so that you would be able to have them all year through and from year to year.

Writing Prompts
Very often our kids need as much guidance as they can get to take away the negative attitude they may have towards writing tasks. As a fun activity I created 'Spin, Select and Write' to bring possitivity to the writing experience. This resource contains color coded writing prompts and writing sheets along with a spin board for general topic selection. Simply print the pages, mount the spin board and print as many colored writing sheets for your paper pool. The prompt cards can be laminated, cut and placed in recycled aluminum tins or other containers. All your kiddos need to do is spin the arrow and choose prompt card of the same color that the arrow shows. They can choose the same color writing sheet to begin free writing.
**SUGGESTION** These writing sheets can be used also as your students first draft pieces. You can make each student rewrite the entire story that they began, correcting all grammar and punctuation mistakes. After they go through the other stages of the writing process they finally get to re-write them on new sheets and keep in a separate folder for publication.
I included blank slides so that you can create your own prompt cards.
Main Idea and Details: Main Idea and Details- Hanger Graphic Organizer printable: Here's a graphic organizer that your kids can use to organize their writing. You can print the colored version and laminate for your writing area. The black and white version can be used for individual students' writing folders or notebooks.
Enjoy!
